World-Renowned Baritone Thomas Hampson Gives a Master Class November 13

As part of National Opera Week (November 13-22), master class is open to the public free of charge

Thomas Hampson, one of today's most respected and sought-after baritones, shares his expertise with students from the Curtis Vocal Studies Department in a master class on Friday, November 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music, 1726 Locust Street. The class is free and open to the public; due to limited seating, reservations are required. Visit to RSVP.

This event is part of National Opera Week (November 13-22), organized by OPERA America. Opera companies, schools, and other organizations across the country offer free programs for opera lovers and newcomers during the week.

Thomas Hampson enjoys a singular career as a recitalist, opera singer, and recording artist, and he maintains an active interest in teaching, music research, and technology. He is one of the most important interpreters of German romantic song?especially the works of Schumann, Mahler, and Wolf?and is a passionate advocate of American song, promoting it through his Song of America project and Hampsong Foundation.

This season Mr. Hampson becomes the New York Philharmonic's first artist-in-residence. Other 2009?10 engagements include performances of Mendelssohn's Elijah under Kurt Masur in Leipzig; Verdi's Ernani and Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin with the Zurich Opera; La traviata at the Metropolitan Opera; solo recitals throughout the United States and in many European capitals; and appearances at the galas of the Vienna State Opera and the new Winspear Opera House in Dallas.
