Jeffrey Khaner and Friends Appear on ‘Curtis Presents’ Saturday, April 5

Featuring students from Mr. Khaner's flute studio and works by Jolivet, Messiaen, Griffes, Enesco, Kuhlau, Bozza, and Sancan

(April 3, 2014) 'Curtis Presents' features Jeffrey Khaner, principal flute of the Philadelphia Orchestra, on Saturday, April 5 at 3 p.m. in Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music. Mr. Khaner joins his students in flute trios and quartets by Kuhlau and Bozza, and the gifted young Curtis flutists perform works by Griffes, Enesco, Jolivet, Sancan, and Messiaen.

The recital takes place in Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music, 1726 Locust Street, Philadelphia. Tickets are $28 and are available from the Curtis Patron Services Office at (215) 893-7902 or Proceeds from the concert directly benefit current Curtis students. In 1990 Jeffrey Khaner joined the Philadelphia Orchestra as principal flute, a position he had held with the Cleveland Orchestra since 1982. Prior to his Cleveland appointment, Mr. Khaner was principal flute of the Atlantic Symphony in Halifax, Canada, and the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York, and co-principal flute of the Pittsburgh Symphony.

A native of Montreal, Mr. Khaner studied with Julius Baker at the Juilliard School, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree with honors in 1980. Mr. Khaner has given recitals and master classes across North and South America, Europe, and Asia, and he has appeared as a soloist with the Montreal Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, and many others in the United States and abroad.

Mr. Khaner, who also teaches at the Juilliard School and Lynn University in Florida, joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 1985. He leads the Jeffrey Khaner Flute Class as part of Curtis Summerfest 2014.

Highlighting alumni and faculty in a new recital series, Curtis Presents brings Curtis musicians from around the world to Field Concert Hall. Performers are leaders in their field, whose success as musicians in the 21st century continues the impact and legacy of Curtis music-making achieved over more than eight decades. Proceeds from the concerts directly benefit current Curtis students.
