Family Concert Series Kicks Off With The Story of Babar Nov 13

The Curtis Institute of Music partners with the Philadelphia Museum of Art for the first Family Concert of 2016–17, bringing a beloved story to life with live music and illustrations.

PHILADELPHIA—November 10, 2016— The immensely popular Family Concerts return to the Curtis Institute of Music with a new program, The Story of Babar, on Sunday, November 13 at 12 and 2 p.m. The lovable French elephant Babar comes to life in an interactive multimedia experience for children and parents alike.

The adventures of Babar are told by acclaimed narrator Charlotte Blake Alston: well-known to Philadelphia audiences as a featured storyteller for the Philadelphia Orchestra’s family and student concerts. Students from Curtis perform Francis Poulenc’s charming score in a fresh and engaging arrangement by Darin Kelly while award-winning children’s book author Zachariah Ohora illustrates the action in real time.

The Story of Babar is generously sponsored by PECO.

This program is presented in collaboration with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which will host additional performances on Sunday, December 4 at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. More information is available on their calendar

Family Concerts are part of the Curtis Community Engagement Program, which shares classical music with young people and others in the community who may not otherwise have access to it. Curtis students also provide interactive educational presentations for area schools, hospitals, senior centers, and community venues and coach young musicians around the world as part of Curtis On Tour and other programs.

Sunday, November 13 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Gould Rehearsal Hall, Lenfest Hall, 1616 Locust Street, Philadelphia

Music by Francis Poulenc, arranged by Darin Kelly

Tickets for both performances are currently sold out.

This performance is sponsored by PECO.
