Younger Students

The Curtis Institute of Music does not offer a preparatory music or academic program and sets no minimum age for the admission of exceptional students to most of its programs.

Students younger than college age are considered candidates for the Curtis Diploma until they earn a high-school diploma or equivalent and take the SAT I and, if necessary, the TOEFL. These students pursue their musical studies at Curtis and their college-preparatory academic studies at an accredited public or private high school of their own choosing. Curtis will provide assistance in making an appropriate choice of middle or high school.

Students under sixteen years of age as of September 1 are required to have a parent or adult legal guardian living with them for the entire academic year, September to May (or June if in a high school program with a longer calendar). Students may request to move into Lenfest Hall after their sixteenth birthday. However, space is limited and in most cases roooms will not be available until the beginning of the next academic year.
