Daniel McDougall

Career Studies

Daniel McDougallA native of California, Daniel McDougall entered the Curtis Institute of Music as a double bass major, studying with Roger Scott. Since receiving his Bachelor of Music degree in 1993, he has built a varied career that has included performing chamber and orchestral music on double bass, serving as an organist and choir director, and playing harpsichord with the Curtis Chamber Orchestra during its 2004 tour of Japan.

Mr. McDougall has participated in numerous international music festivals, including Rencontres Musicales d'Evian, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Music by the Red Sea, and Festival dei Due Mondi. He has been a member of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra since 1996 and appears with the DSO as soloist during the 2014–15 season. He is the assistant principal of the Pennsylvania Ballet orchestra and plays regularly with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Philly Pops, Opera Philadelphia, and Bach Choir of Bethlehem, among others. He has collaborated with the Copeland Quartet, and will perform with the Pyxis Quartet in Spring, 2015.

Mr. McDougall joined the staff of the Curtis Institute of Music in 1993 and from 2001 to 2004, he served as director of student services and international student advisor. He joined the Curtis faculty in 2004.
