Joseph P. McGinn

Philosophy and Ethics

Joseph P. McGinn graduated with a BA in history and philosophy from the University of Manitoba and received an MA in philosophy from the University of Waterloo before studying as a Commonwealth Scholar at the University of Edinburgh. He completed a PhD at The Pennsylvania State University with a dissertation addressing the thought of Josiah Royce entitled “Toward a Metaphysics of Community.”

His scholarly interests range from idealism and pragmatism to ethics and the philosophy of culture. Dr. McGinn has taught at several universities and was professor and director of the global honors program at Lock Haven University before becoming professor and dean of the honors college at Towson University. Most recently he served as vice-president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Maine Farmington.
