Giving Securities

Curtis welcomes gifts of appreciated marketable securities. Your broker, financial advisor or trust officer can arrange to have securities delivered to Curtis electronically using the Depository Trust Company (DTC) wire transfer system, the fastest and safest method of delivery.

The Curtis Institute of Music is a nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and an organization described in Section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as ammended. The school's tax ID number is 23-1585611.

Electronic delivery of securities

Curtis asks that you or your broker or account manager notify the Curtis Advancement Office at (215) 893-5279 or of the transfer of securities to our account at PNC Bank. The following delivery instructions are up-to-date as of November, 2016:

PNC Bank

  • DTC #2616
  • Internal Account #2135001-1026508

  (Curtis Institute Gift Account)

  • Attn: Daniel Sargo, Institutional Asset Management

   Telephone: (412) 762-6320

   Fax: (800) 449-7382

Physical delivery of securities

Curtis also welcomes gifts of marketable securities and will value the gift on the date Curtis receives all of the following: the stock certificate(s), a signed stock power showing a medallion signature guarantee, and a cover letter signed by the owner(s) of the securities indicating the intent to give the securities to Curtis.

Curtis will value your gift of marketable securities on the date the school's agent, PNC Bank, receives your gift. We will take the average between the high and the low on that date. Usally, the date Curtis receives your gift is the same as the date the securities were sent to the school's gift account at PNC Bank, but in some cases it may not be the same as the date of the gift for your charitable deduction/income tax purposes. Thus, Curtis encourages you to consult with your legal, financial, or tax advisors concerning the valuation of your gift and other aspects of your charitable income tax deduction.
